Organization
Invest International is a new state-owned company set-up by the Dutch government. It is a private company funded with public capital. Its purpose is to foster innovative (Dutch) solutions for global challenges and to make the necessary investments feasible. The company’s hybrid business model enables it to support governments and companies by providing capital as well as project development capacity.

Invest International has opened its doors as of October 2021, in The Hague. We currently have a vacancy for the position of (Financial) Investment Manager in the Public sector team.

Department
The (Financial) Investment Manager is part of the Public Programs business unit of Invest International. This business unit is responsible for developing, financing and overseeing large infrastructural projects in developing countries with a strong focus on climate resilience, water-infra, sustainable manufacturing, healthcare and agri-food. The present portfolio consists of about 75 projects with a total value of around 670 million euros committed in grants and subsidies reflecting a total project value of 1,4 billion euros. The yearly budget of the infrastructure programs for new projects is aimed to grow to about 200 million euros per year.

The position involves working closely together with the private sector department on the structuring of grant and loans for the development and follow-up of leads for public infrastructure in developing countries, the assessment of project proposals and the development, financing, and management of projects under the Public Programs of Invest International.

As Investment Manager, you will be a member of one of the three Regional Teams of Public Programs, (1) Asia and Latin America, (2) South & East Africa or (3) West Africa & MENA but will also work across teams depending on background and capacity.

The position

The position is a full-time role as (Financial) Investment Manager. This is a senior role in which you will work with a team on a public infrastructure project, structuring the best financing solution for the client and Invest International. In the structuring of the transactions, you are involved in the structuring process from acquisition to preparing the grant and loan documentation and negotiation. This together with other specialists in the team.

To be successful, you also work closely together with the Private Sector department and the other units that are key in our internal processes, like the ESG and Credit departments. You will maintain contact with our foreign and Dutch clients as well as other related parties such as our embassies, multilateral organizations, law firms, Ministries etc. You also visit these countries and monitor the implementation of the projects there.

Requirement & characteristics

In addition to knowledge in finance and economics, you have a curious and proactive attitude towards entrepreneurs who want to invest in developing and emerging countries is crucial. For this, you have knowledge of, or affinity with developing countries, with a preference for experience at the intersection of development cooperation and private sector development. You are willing to travel to developing countries.

You have completed academic education, preferably in the field of finance, economics, business economics and/or law, or business administration with at least 10 years of work experience. Work experience in relevant sectors will compensate for other education than listed above.

Furthermore, the ideal candidate has the following skills and competencies:

  • Experience in working with finance structures for emerging markets and understanding how multilateral institutions, development banks and export credit agencies work.

  • You have excellent up-to-date knowledge of, and insight into development cooperation (specifically public infrastructure development) and concessional financing.

  • You have excellent communication and writing skills and experience in writing proposals and knowledge of financial structuring.

  • You have in-depth knowledge of reading financial reports. You have sufficient analytical skills, judgment, and numerical insight to understand business plans and financial models.

  • An own network of companies operating in the sector.

  • You have strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Flexible, pragmatic, and capable of working on several assignments at the same time.

  • You have strong skills in planning, organizing, and prioritizing.

  • Strong team skills, contributing to team success and to a constructive, positive, and collaborative work environment.

  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal are required. One or more foreign languages, preferably French, are a plus.

  • You can easily communicate as a partner and advisor to our clients on a CFO or Treasurer level.

  • You have affection for the developing world and are familiar with the SDGs. You have the desire to create more than profit alone and have a passion for Invest International’s mission.
